January 04 Latest musicSo I got hooked once again with Utada Hikaru, with her new single Passion, the theme from Kingdom Hearts 2.
That girls sure does cool stuff!
Plus I discovered that she had released a CD in the US called Exodus. All dance music, really good.
I didn't even know it was her playing in the radio when I would hear the songs in C 89.5.
You should go out and get it! June 04 A new favoriteI have just been introduced to a BEAUTIFUL song. All I Ask of You from Phantom of the Opera. Lyrics can be found here. One of the original cast members is my very dear role model Sarah Brightman. Guys, if you want to be romantic, ask your girl to dance with you this song. It has quickly become one of my favorites. So much love and passion. Wow....How I wish somebody would sing this to me... May 19 So much drama in PhDA friend of mine sent me the following link. I think it is actually funny song. People have too much free time on their hands. Enjoy! Warning: You will probably not get it unless you are familiar with software terms. It does become part of you...So, I was chilling at work yesterday with some co-workers when one of them asks me: "Ana, where is your iPod?" I answered: "In the office". He respoinds: "Ana, it's not natural to see you without it, go and get it!" I was warned that this would happen. I was warned that iPods become part of you; an extension if you will. I was like: "Yeah right...that's to freaky." But alas, I must fear it's true. Over the weekend, my iPod finally went into a coma. It had been having some bad times. Jumping songs (that are perfectly fine in my PC), taking a very very painfully long time to start a song, making weird noises...The last thing it did, about 48 hours before it finally died was that it mixed two songs but I was only playing one of them (just one of them was displayed) and no...it was not a remix. That was REALLY freaky. The iPod doing it's own remixing...Makes you wonder about AI doesn't it. Well, it finally died. So I took it to the Apple Store. After some time, I was attended by this cute guy and I was given the bad news that my iPod died. The hard drive failed. So, they gave me a new one. I was really sad and empty though during the time that my iPod had died. I was going for walks and no music was coming in my ears. Ouh...It's sad to think that not even Apple products can stand the wrath of my staticness. But, thankfully, everything worked out and now I'm back on track. May 03 Check this outA friend of mine sent me this link: Click here The guy in this video has some mad skillz. I don't know who you are, but pretty impressive! April 28 I felt like Al Bundy today...So, yesterday I bought some 16 songs from iTunes. I was really excited. Getting them into my iPod, being able to listen to them anytime I want. But, there was this one song, that I knew I liked a lot, but I just couldn't remember ANYTHING about it. I knew that if I stopped thinking about it, it would just appear. Well, it wasn't 'till this morning that I was able to remember something. Hehehehe, all I remembered was "Hhmm-hmm-hmmm". Hehehehe, and obsiously the intro tune. But it was driving me nuts...I just couldn't get past that humming. Then I remembered this episode from Married with Children (that's right, I'm getting old, so what?). In that episode, Al Bundy was trying to get this song that all he remembered about it was "Hhmm himmmm". Hehehehe, they went to this music store where there was this guy that you can give him phrases like that and he knew them. When Al went to him, the guy wasn't able to recognize the song. Al was all disappointed and sad, when suddenly, the tune starts playing in the music store. He gets all excited and says:"Peg (does a little dance) that's my song" and he rushed over to the guy and said I want that song. Afterwards, they get home and Al puts the LP on top of the coffee table. Cristina Applegate and her show boyfriend (which is played by the actor who plays Joey in Friends) get to the house and sit on the couch. I can't quite remember what the exact dialog was, but I know that "Joey" says: "I have a feeling that your dad and I are going to become great friends". At this, he puts his feet up on the coffee table and breaks the LP of the song that Al bought. Hehehehehe, the episode finishes there. Hehehehe, I can't believe I remember all of that from that one episode. Anyways, I felt like Al Bundy that I couldn't get the name of that tune. Eventually I remembered the lyrics but have not been able to find it on the web. Do you know the name of this song?
--------------------------------------- Update: I knew that if I listened to C 89.5 long enough, that they would play the song. How could I have forgotten?? The artist is Sin Plomo and the title is It's You. Awesome song! April 24 El que no tiene dinga, tiene mandinga.I finally got it! I ordered the CD of Lambarena (there some sample music at the bottom of the page). Lambarena is a mix of african music with classical Bach. I was exposed to this on April 16th when I went to see a performance by the Pacific Northwest Ballet titled American Choreographers. The last dance that they did was Lambarena. It was so beautiful. I can say that it has been my favorite performance. And I just couldn't help moving to the sound of the drums. It really did captivate me. And well, Puerto Ricans are a supposedly a mix between the Native Indians, the Taínos, that inhabited Puerto Rico back when the Spaniards colonized it, the Spaniards and the African slaves that the Spaniards brought. Some genetical research has been made and it has been found that we have very little Taíno blood in us. They were killed pretty quickly by the Spaniards. So, you are lucky if it seems that Taíno blood runs in your family. So, I guess you can say that we are primarily a mix between Spaniards and Africans. But besides the genetics, we still have a mix of all three cultures. The phrase that I have as the title of this blog means: "He who doesn't have Dinga has Mandinga" which refers to some of the african tribes that were brought here. It means that everybody has some african in them. So you can imagine, me not being able to deny part of my heritage. Let's move to the beats of Lambarena!!! April 09 Paul OakenfoldLast night, Paul Oakenfold played at The Premier. The Premier is by far the best dance club I have been here in Seattle. The other places I have gone to (Last Supper Club, Tiki's Bob, etc.) have the mix of being a bar and having this tiny space for dancing. But The Premier, man, that is awesome. A VERY large space for dancing, the lights, the lasers....Yeap, truly a dance club. It was interesting to see Paul Oakenfold. His skills as a DJ are very good (hence why he has fame). One of the things that amused me the most is the way he moves the crowd. You know you can move the crowd when you extend your arms upward as if saying, I am a god, worship me, and the crowd does. Of course, I couldn't resist the temptation to climb on top of a box or mini-stage and dance there. I did...and it was great. To be above the crowd, overlooking everybody and just giving out my best. I did get my compliment or two after being told me to get down from there. And well, I didn't stay 'till the end of the show (I'm getting old, I know...) but in a way I did stay 'till the end of the show. I dreamt last night that I did stay 'till the end of the show. So, my mind is at peace. March 09 Game musicIt's that time again, where I start searching for game music. I have been doing DDR (I know, it's great!!) for this past week and I have been putting on a lot two songs.
They are both from the musician Akira Yamaoka. Mr. Yamaoka has been known in the game industry for his Silent Hill soundtracks and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night soundtrack (which the later is one of the best games for the playstation!!!). Your Rain is from Silent Hill 4 and You're Not Here is from Silent Hill 3. I was actually very excited when I unlocked You're Not Here. I had rented Silent Hill 3 about a year ago and I think that is the intro song. I recognized it immediately. I think that is the only part of the game I liked (I'm a Resident Evil fan). So, I go to iTunes and MSN Music to see if perhaps they target the game fans. I found to no surprise that they didn't carry any music related to games. Very sad. There is a website that sells game soundtracks, anime soundtracks and even game music sheets! It is called Gamemusic. But, I don't want to pay $28 for 1 song. And, they don't have the Silent Hill 4 soundtrack. That is sucky...oh well, continue searching for them songs. December 21 Sarah Brightman - Harem TourYeap, Sarah has done it again! A friend of mine gave me as a Xmas present the DVD of Sarah Brightman's Harem World Tour. It is AWESOME! It is the first time I see her actually sing. Wow, it's impressive. I like the way she makes this aura around her of being a goddess. Visualizations were very good...The staging awesome. The belly dancing was pretty cool. Obviously, they focused more on Sarah than the dancers, so there were moments were I would have liked to have a better pictures of the dancers, but hey! you can't have everything. I want to learn Belly Dancing. As I write this, Time To Say Goodbye came on...I get so excited that my eyes got watery... Really, Sarah Brightman has just become my singing role model. Hehehe, I doubt I will ever get to sing as she does, but I can always try. December 19 Disappoinment...So, I was chillin' in Tiki's Bob Club on Friday, and they got into this period of playing old songs...like from the early 90's. I love one of the songs that they played, but didn't know who played or what did the lyrics say (I really liked the rhythm). I asked the DJ and he told me. So today, after searching through iTunes to find that they don't have it, I decided to check if I could find the lyrics. Find them I did (here) and after reading them...man, what a crappy song. I still like the rhythm though, and everytime it is played, I will dance to it with joy. The song is Ditty by Paperboy. I should have known...with a name like Paperboy. I wonder if he played Paperboy for NES. December 18 About music stuff...My music sheet arrived!!! Looking at it briefly, the song IS complicated. Plus, Sarah really goes up there in the notes. So, inspired by the song, I decided that I really really want to continue with my singing lessons. So I called my singing teacher. She is permiting me to take classes on Saturdays (she doesn't really do that, but has made exceptions). I'm really glad. She has a lot of faith in me. I start on the 8th of Jan. She also knows how to play Time To Say Goodbye. So, when the appropiate time comes, I will ask her to train me for the song. So it begins...my quest to try and reach a Soprano voice and perhaps be able to sing Time To Say Goodbye. Wish me luck! December 15 Breaking off the old tapesSo, in the weekend I started listening to some old tapes (that's right, that ancient technology of cassette tapes) of mine; of songs that I had recorded from the radio. It's nice to go as far back as '92. It has been a nice experience to listen to my interests over a 14 year period. (Man, I'm getting old...) It has been nice listening to songs I had forgotten I had. It has been shameful to discover some songs that I have taped. I should do this every so often... I'm thinking of transferring the songs to a CD, just in case the lifetime of the tapes are near an end. We'll see... December 14 A Time To Say Goodbye Music SheetMy music sheet was shipped today! I should be receiving it between 3-7 business days! YAY! December 13 A Time To Say GoodbyeSo, since friday I have been addicted to the song: A Time To Say Goodbye. I love the duo version of Andrea Boccelli and Sarah Brightman . This page has the lyrics and more informaiton on it. Since I started a while back taking singing lessons, then I thought of getting the music sheet to see if can learn to sing it. I'm waiting for it to arrive. I'll let you know how it goes... |
